Character Building Copywork by Cindy Prechtel
I am so excited to share this new project with you! Copywork has many benefits, it provides students with excellent writing models, gives opportunity to gain accuracy, work on spelling, learn proper sentence structure and more. While my children have benefited from all of the above, perhaps the biggest benefit I have found is the opportunity to discuss the material being copied, often times we even end up digging for more information about the person or topic. Why not use copywork to build character? Oh, yes, as children build the habit of neat handwriting and accurate copying, they are certainly building character, but what if we went deeper? I began looking for words of wisdom, poems, stories, etc. that would build the habit of considering the words of others and measuring them against the ultimate book of wisdom, the Bible.
While others might be concerned with using lengthier passages for older children to copy. I decided long ago that short, consistent copywork that inspired my child to think and even dig deeper, instilled the same habit I was trying to create, gave us the same academic benefits as above and more. I love challenging our children to build godly character while introducing them to great men and women of history!
This book features 180 copywork passages, printed in both cursive and manuscript so they can be used with ALL of your children. The passages are based on 18 different character qualities, such as honesty, diligence, patience and more. In addition to passages from Scripture, children will copy quotes from famous people and be challenged to consider how the words from that person measure up to what Scripture says about the topic. I also recommend using these passages as opportunities to look up unfamiliar words, thus easily and naturally expanding our children's vocabulary.
This book is NOT designed to teach handwriting, but rather to provide practice once the student is comfortable forming/connecting letters in manuscript or traditional cursive. Ages 7 & up
Character Building Copywork is available three-hole punched ready to be put in a binder or you can have instant access by purchasing the book online in as an ebook for easy downloading, saving and printing!
INCLUDED FREE WITH EACH ORDER: A link to download a short collection of character-based stories, carefully selected from a variety of now out-of-print books. You will receive an email with the link to the stories with your order receipt.

Character Building Copywork Series
America's Story
This book chronicles America’s rich history from its beginnings to present-day with quotes designed to give students a glimpse into the character of the men and women who shaped our country. You’ll find lots of quotes about America and patriotism, you’ll also find quotes about certain events, but most important are the quotes from great Americans that reflect the character of the person studied. There are 180 quotes in all - enough for a whole school year - perfect to supplement whatever history curriculum you are using!
You’ll find the quotes in America’s Story to follow in a fairly chronological order. Of course a person’s life spans many decades, but I have tried to group people close to the events that were most prominent during their lifetime. For instance, you’ll read quotes from J.P. Morgan, P.T. Barnum, and Rockefeller all close together, but they may be in a different order than they are presented in your history curriculum. Some of the quotes are lengthier than others, and many are quite “deep.” In addition to quotes from almost every president, I have also included quotes from some of the great thinkers and innovators of each era.
This book is NOT designed to teach handwriting, but rather to provide practice once the student is comfortable forming/connecting letters in manuscript or traditional cursive. Ages 8 - 13

Raising Maidens of Virtue by Stacey MacDonald
What is true feminine beauty? How can a young woman in today's world glorify God through her pure, chaste, and lovely behavior, without appearing "holier than thou"? Speaking from the depths of a mother's heart, Stacy McDonald addresses these and other questions in this wonderful book.
Designed for mothers and their teenage daughters to study together, Raising Maidens of Virtue is not a dry, textbook-style study, but rather one that is best enjoyed snuggled together with a cup of tea. Mrs. McDonald has done a superb job of using creative stories, illustrations, and gentle conversations to guide her readers as they consider such topics as guarding the tongue, modesty, purity, honoring parents, idleness, contentment, cleanliness, family relationships, and true biblical femininity and beauty. Scripture references and discussion questions at the end of each chapter are designed to ensure understanding and encourage application. Also included in the book are ideas for making this study even more memorable through the use of journals and scrapbooks. Raising Maidens of Virtue is as pleasant to look at as the message is refreshing to read. |

Created for Work by Bob Schultz
All young men should be on the road to developing a healthy attitude toward work. Honest productive work is the backbone of strong families and blessed nations.
As the author in Boyhood and Beyond addressed essential issues related to godly character as boys transition into manhood. In Created for Work he applies his engaging homespun wisdom, with stories from real life, to teach young men (and boys) what it means to be good workers.
Modern culture seems addicted to ease and entertainment. It has produced a generation of educated yet often dishonest, unproductive, and weak-willed men. God desires higher standards for His people. He is looking for young men who do not shy away from hard work, who are not afraid to get their hands dirty, who can follow directions, think creatively, respect authority, and happily complete their duties in a timely manner. These are the ones He is training up to be future fathers, teachers, and leaders. Created for Work inspires young men and offers the tools and encouragement they need to embrace God's ways and always give an honest day's work.
Questions at the end of each chapter make this book an excellent read-aloud book for a father and son or for group discussion. |
