Character Building Copywork Series
America's Story
This book chronicles America’s rich history from its beginnings to present-day with quotes designed to give students a glimpse into the character of the men and women who shaped our country. You’ll find lots of quotes about America and patriotism, you’ll also find quotes about certain events, but most important are the quotes from great Americans that reflect the character of the person studied. There are 180 quotes in all - enough for a whole school year - perfect to supplement whatever history curriculum you are using!
You’ll find the quotes in America’s Story to follow in a fairly chronological order. Of course a person’s life spans many decades, but I have tried to group people close to the events that were most prominent during their lifetime. For instance, you’ll read quotes from J.P. Morgan, P.T. Barnum, and Rockefeller all close together, but they may be in a different order than they are presented in your history curriculum. Some of the quotes are lengthier than others, and many are quite “deep.” In addition to quotes from almost every president, I have also included quotes from some of the great thinkers and innovators of each era.
This book is NOT designed to teach handwriting, but rather to provide practice once the student is comfortable forming/connecting letters in manuscript or traditional cursive. Ages 8 - 13
Character Building Copywork - America's Story is available three-hole punched ready to be put in a binder or you can have instant access by purchasing the book online in as an ebook for easy downloading, saving and printing!

The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History
by Thomas Woods
Everything-well, almost everything-you know about American history is wrong because most textbooks and popular history books are written by left-wing academic historians who treat their biases as fact. But fear not: Professor Thomas Woods refutes the popular myths in The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History. Professor Woods reveals facts that you won't be--or never were--taught in school, tells you about the "Books You're Not Supposed to Read," and takes you on a fast-paced politically incorrect tour of American history that will give you all the information you need to battle and confound left-wing professors, neighbors, and friends.

History of the U.S. by Joy Hakim - 10 Volume Set
We have used these to supplement our history study and they are wonderful. Though not written from a Christian perspective, the author does a fairly good job of providing a balanced view of American history. This series is an integral part of Sonlight curriculum, but we use it as a "spine" or guide to fill in gaps with our own literature-based study. We are able to get the entire set for a very good price and pass that savings on to you!

History Pockets
These are AWESOME!! We put together the Ancient Egypt History Pocket and found it overflowing with information! These pockets make a great hands-on supplement to any history curriculum. Evan-Moor has done a phenomenal job of providing clear instructions, great graphics and engaging craft activities in each of their History Pockets. What a great way to keep hands busy while your reading aloud from literature AND the kids end up with a delightful portfolio to display everything they have learned! Oh, and it doesn't matter how many children you have, you only need to purchase one book for each topic, since they are all totally reproducible!
Each book in the History Pockets series contains 7 to 11 pockets of history activities. For every pocket there are reading, writing, and "make-it" projects that extend the historical concept being presented.
The following resources are provided:
· an overview page that describes the activities in each pocket
· complete teacher directions for all activities
· a reproducible label for each pocket
· historical background information
· historically accurate illustrations
· maps, charts, and time lines
The following activities are included:
· informational reading and writing opportunities
· historically-based arts and crafts projects and patterns
· culminating evaluation and reflection forms
Try one - you'll be glad you did! These books do have "Grade Levels" referenced on the cover, but we found the activities applied to 1 - 6th graders regardless of the range listed on the cover.
