With a daughter at the threshold of her teenage years, I have been on the lookout for resources to help prepare her for this new chapter in her life.  So it was with much anticipation and expectancy that I came across Karen Andreola's book, Beautiful Girlhood.  I was not to be disappointed.

Mrs. Andreola has revised and expanded this book by M. Hale that has been in circulation for decades.  This book does not deal with the physical changes that occur within a maturing young girl, but rather the deeper emotional, and spiritual growing that a girl must go through in her journey to be a Godly woman.  Topics include "the Strength of Obedience", "Ideals", "Friendships", "Choosing a Life Work", and "A Pure Heart", as well as many others.  Scripture is cited and real life examples are given throughout the book.  It is inspirational as it values and beautifies girlhood. The book also gives such dignity to motherhood and womanhood, that it is refreshing to read. 
  
I would recommend that for the preadolescent girl, both mother and daughter should read the chapters together.  Although Mrs. Andreola has removed archaic phrases, the language in several chapters may be lost on some girls.  This will also allow time for discussion between mother and daughter.  My daughter eagerly looks forward to our nightly chapter readings.  It is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together and to cherish this special time in her life.
