If you've ever considered having your children learn Greek, but wondered how in the world you were going to teach it, this is the course for you!
Hey, Andrew!! Teach Me Some Greek!, designed to teach Koine or Biblical Greek to children, is wonderfully simple, yet thorough. Beginning at Level 1 and progressing through 6 levels, students advance through writing, reading and eventually translating Greek for themselves. Thankfully, the easy-to-use workbooks require no prior knowledge of Greek.
We were sent the student books for Levels 1 - 3 to review. Each level consists of an unassuming, no-frills workbook written to the student. Level 1 teaches the 24 letters of the Greek Alphabet to students as young as 4 or 5 years old. The company sells sets for each level that include the student book, an answer key, quizzes/exams, and "Flashcards on a Ring". Pronunciation CDs or tapes are available as well. Any of the items may be purchased separately. The flashcards are included in each student book, but need to be pasted onto index cards for durability. After Level 1, students move through levels 2 - 6 learning step-by-step, Greek words, phrases, grammar and more. Because review of previously introduced material is crucial, flashcard review is used everyday through all 6 levels (there is a box for the student to check at the bottom of each lesson with a reminder, "I practiced my flashcards today."). The lessons include fill-in-the-blank, matching, word search puzzles and other exercises, giving students many different ways of mastering words and concepts. Homeschool moms will appreciate the clearly written assignments and the steady pace at which material is presented. Some will hesitate adding another subject to their already full school day, however, the lessons are short and most children can complete them in about 15 minutes (upper levels will take a bit longer).
There are many benefits to learning biblical Greek, one of these is the ability to dig into the Greek New Testament and translate the Bible for oneself. Another benefit is a better vocabulary since many of our English words are derived from Greek roots. Although written for children, adults can benefit from this course, making
