MATH-A-LOGIC

Math-a-Logic is a softbound book that provides 72 lessons, covering 8 topics in Logic. The program targets students in grades 4-8. Each of the 76 pages is its own lesson with a short, but sufficient explanation of the topic as well as problems to work. Each lesson requires very little if any prep time. The pages have a nice layout that should appeal to, rather than overwhelm, the student. The pages are reproducible for use within a family.

Math-a-Logic introduces some topics that may be touched on in a standard math curriculum, such as Sequencing & Patterns, and Sets & Venn diagrams; but, Math-a-Logic goes into more depth. Topics also include Analogies, Deduction, Inference, Syllogisms, Propositions & Logical Notation, and Logical Problem Solving.

While the activities involving sequences and pattern are common to many math supplements, I have not found many that cover Set & Logic Notation so well. There is no teacher's guide but the topics are presented in small increments so a parent should not be intimidated by subjects which are new to them. The answers are provided in the back of the book in an Answer section. While this is sufficient for checking most sections, in the Logic Problem-Solving section, some parents and students could benefit from an explanation of how the answers were derived.

Math-a-Logic could easily be combined with any standard math curriculum. It could also be used for summertime enrichment or just to 'take a break' from a student's regular math program. The logic and critical thinking skills acquired will not only benefit a student's math skills, but should enhance their thinking skills in all academic areas.
Overall, I was very pleased with this product and I feel it would be a good enhancement to any child's education.
