Progeny Press Portraits of Amercan Girlhood

Progeny Press Literature Guides

Although I am not a big fan of reading comprehension questions, I have made an exception with the Progeny Press Series.  This program helps students to better understand how to deal with literature and its mechanics while guiding them toward understanding, with questions that really require them to think - and all from a Biblical worldview. I love to choose books that correspond to the time period/ subject we are studying so that my sons can be reinforcing both literature study AND history/science at the same time!

Progeny Press Study Guides provide teachers, parents, and students with questions and comparisons from the firm, and timeless, foundation of the Bible. These study guides:
· deal with literature as works of art and philosophy
· explain and use literary terms, and deal with plot construction
· dig into why the characters act, believe, and feel as they do and examine what the Bible says in similar circumstances.

Easy-to-use lessons include vocabulary exercises, comprehension and analysis, critical thinking, questions on related Biblical principles, activities, plus a complete answer key.

All Progeny Press Study Guides come in an attractive, clear-front presentation folder. The convenient 8 1/2" x 11" loose-leaf format makes photocopying pages easy.  Yes, you read that right - Progeny Press products are reproducible for all students in your homeschool or in a co-op class!

Literature-Based Unit Study
Portraits of American Girlhood
by Cindy Sotelo
Now there is a fun, easy way to weave science, geography, biography studies, grammar,
history, literature and writing skills into your homeschool studies. Watch your students' love of learning blossom as you read one American Girl® historical fiction novel per week and do one literature-based project per day! The author recommends that users supplement a phonics program for new readers, and possibly a spelling program. With the involvement of The American Girl® series and other related books on history, there are an endless amount of activities that promote further learning with the use of this guide. I am excited that it covers the broad spectrum from science and history to creative writing and cooking!
This huge 250+ page study is designed to last either one traditional 36-week school schedule using six of the seven units included, or a year-round 42-week schedule using all seven units. The study guide is written from a Christian/creationist perspective. All essential books needed are usually available at the library and major book chains.

The guide is for grades 2-5, but can easily be adapted for older students using the enrichment activities at the back of each chapter. It comes with a FREE CD ROM that contains over 70 worksheets, maps and handouts for you to print out from your own computer. Also included are adaptation ideas for kids with special needs, how to include boys in the study, and lots of tips and tricks to help you along the way. You can read a complete review of this well written program in our newsletter section of this site.
